Starry, do you remember how we divided a two digit number by a one digit number?
You aren’t too sure?
Ok, let us revise it.

Suppose, Starry, we have to find out.
Q: 69 : 3 = how many?
Ans: To divide 69, we first look at the digit which is in the tens place of the dividend, the digit is 6.
See the 3 times table up to 6.
Divide 6 tens by 3
3 x 2 = 6.
Write t 2 above the line in the tens place of the quotient.
The product of 3 and 2 is 6.
Subtract this product from 6 tens.
0 tens remains.

Next, bring down the 9 units and write it at the side of 0.
Divide the 9 units by 3.
See the 3 times table up to 9,
3 x 3 = 9.
The quotient is 3.
write the 3 above the line in the unit place of the quotient.
Subtract 9, the product of 3 and 3 from the 9 units.
The remainder is 0.
The quotient is 23.
So 69 : 3 = 23.
You seem happy Starry.
I’m sure you remember.

Now that you do, we will learn another kind the division,
The division of a three digit number with a one digit number.
Are you ready Starry?
Let’s begin.

Q: 244 : 2 = how many?
Ans:
Starry, we will first divide the hundred then the tens and last the unit by 2.
We begin with the 2 times table,
2 x 1 = 2,
The quotient is 1, write it in the hundred place of the quotient.
Now subtract the product of 2 and 1 from 2.
The remainder is 0.
Next, bring down the 4 from the tens place, and write it at the side of  0.

Next, see the 2 times table up to 4.
2 x 2 = 4.
The quotient is 2, write 2 in the tens place of the quotient.
Subtract the product of 2 and 2 from the 4 tens.
The remainder is 0.
Finally, bring down the 4 from the unit place, and write it at the side of 0.
Now see the 2 times table up to 4.
2 x 2 = 4.
The quotient is 2, write it in the unit place of the quotient.

Subtract the product of 2 and 2 from the 4 units.
The remainder is 0.
So Starry, When you divide the three digit number 244 by 2.
The quotient is 122.

Now have a look at this one Starry.
Q: 412 : 4 = how many?
Ans:
We begin by dividing 4 hundred by 4,
4 x 1 = 4.
The quotient is 1, and is written in the hundred place of the quotient.

Subtract the product of 4 and 1 from the 4 hundred.
The remainder is 0.
Next, bring down the 1 tens, and write it at the side of 0.
Now divide 1 tens by 4.
The quotient is 0, write 0 in the tens place of the quotient.
Subtract the product of 4 and 0 from 1, the remainder is 1.
Finally, bring down the 2 units, and write it at the side of 1.
We now have 12 units,
 4 x 3 = 12.
The quotient is 3.
Subtract the product of 4 and 3 from the 12 units.
The remainder is 0.
So we divide 412 by 4, the quotient is 103.

Next Q: divide 584 : 4
Ans: begin with the 4 times table, 4 x 1 = 4.
The quotient is 1, write it in the hundred place of the quotient.
Now subtract the product of 4 and 1 from 5, the remainder is 1.

Next, bring down the 8 from the tens place and write it at the side of 1.
Next see the 4 times table up to 18,
 4 x 4 = 16.
The quotient is 4, write 4 in the tens place of the quotient.
Subtract the product of 4 and 4 from the 18 tens.
The remainder is   2.
Finally, bring down the 4 from the units place and write it at the side of 2.
Divide 24 units by 4.
Now see the 4 times table to 24,
 4 x 6 = 24.
The quotient is 6, write it the unit place of the quotient.
Subtract the product of 4 and 6 from the 24 units,
The remainder is 0.
When you divide the three digit number 584 by 4.
The quotient is 146.

Starry, wasn't that  interesting!
You have learn to divide a three digit number by a one digit number.
