Starry, yesterday we were counted money from your piggy bank.

There were 575 rupees in it , here you can add 120 rupees more.

What are you thinking Starry?

Oh, you are try to caculate the total amount in your piggy bank.

Starry, the addition of three digit numbers is the same as that of two digit numbers.

Come! Let’s add 575 rupees and 120 rupees.

First, we shall arrange the numbers in the proper columns.

Let’s write the digit 5 in the hundred column, 7 in the tens column and 5 in the units column,

from the number 120, digit 1 is written below 5 in the hundreds column, digit 2 is written below 7 in the tens column, and 0 is written below 5 in the units column.

What should we do now?

Yes, now we shall add the digit in the units place,

5 + 0 =5, 
next plus are the digit in the tens place,
 7 tens plus 2 tens equals 9 tens,

5 hundreds plus 1 hundred is equal to 6 hundreds.

So Starry, now you have total of 695 rupees.

Starry, come! Let’s solve a few example of adding three digit numbers. Add 532 + 216.

The first step is to arrange the number vertically and proper column and solve.

Now Starry, from which column should we start adding?

Yes, start adding the units place first.
2 units plus 6 units is equal to 8 units.

Now add the tens place digit, 3 tens plus 1 tens equals 4 tens.

Next, 5 hundreds plus 2 hundreds equal 7 hundreds.

What is the final answer Starry? Yes, 532 plus 216 equals 748.

Now Starry can you  suggest which two numbers we should add?

Ok, let’s find the sum of 415 and 263. 
Starry see!! I have arranged the numbers in proper column.

Now let’s add the units place digit, 5 units plus 3 units equals 8 units.

Now let’s add the tens place digit, 1 tens plus 6 tens is equal to 7 tens,

Finally, we add the hundreds place digit, 4 hundreds plus 2 hundreds is equal to 6 hundreds.

So 415 plus 263 equal 678.

So Starry, even if the number are big, they can be  added easily if they are arranged in proper column.

In the next example, the numbers have already been arranged in the proper column, just fill in the empty boxes.

In the first example add 806 and 123. Tell me the answer Starry?

Yes, 6 units plus 3 units equals 9 units, 
0 tens plus 2 tens equals 2 tens,

and 8 hundreds plus 1 hundred equals 9 units.

So Starry 806 plus 123 equal 929. 

Fill in the boxes in the given example.

253 plus 520,  are you solve this one Starry?

Yes, 3 units plus 0 units is equal to 3 units,
 5 tens plus 2 tens is equal to 7 tens,

2 hundreds plus 5 hundreds is equal to7 hundred.

So Starry 253 plus 520 equal 773.
